Here at Mother & Chile one of our services is to invest time and provide intensive research locating resources that are specifically geared towards Mothers and their families. Sometimes we receive or run into awesome initiatives at the last minute. Such as the In Her Hands Guaranteed Income Initiative. In Her Hands is one of the largest guaranteed income initiatives in the U.S. It is run by the Georgia Resilience and Opportunity (GRO) Fund and GiveDirectly.
Automatically after reviewing this resource, we felt an initial feeling of disappointment due to the timing. We asked ourselves why are we are just now learning about this great initiative? There could be many reasons why, but the top reason for sure is the lack of reoccurring local and national news coverage on the initiative. As you can see in the photo below, even a simple google search does not pull up the news articles necessary to learn more.
We know we must convert our disappointment energy from wishing we had this information to report this initiative to our communities, from its start, into positive energy. We must use this lesson to prove how imperative it is to have eyes that work only to keep a look out for hardworking parents whom just don’t have the energy or time to invest in the “search” for resources. We will continue to do the work and do as much as we can to keep these resources readily accessible for people to apply.
The In Her Hands is a guaranteed income initiative focused on putting a solution to financial insecurity directly in the hands of women in Georgia. In Her Hands will provide no-strings-attached cash payments averaging $850 per month for 2 years to 650 women in three of the poorest communities in Georgia. They’ve already closed applications for their first two communities, the Atlanta (Old Fourth Ward area), Southwest Georgia (Clay, Randolph & Terrell counties) but for those of you who live in the City of College Park, you still have time to get your applications in before tomorrow, Sunday, August 21st at 11:59 PM, which is the deadline.
UPDATE: Great News! The application deadline has been extended Sunday, August 28th, 2022 at 11:59 PM!
